Breaking Away from the MEA
In 2012, teachers in Roscommon Public Schools took a bold step. They decertified from the Michigan Education Association and formed their own independent union. According to the president of the new union, Jim Perialas, teachers are saving $400 a year in dues and getting better representation for the money. Breaking away from the MEA took time and effort. Lawsuit Alleges Wind Power A Threat To Health And Safety
According to the suit, the $250 million Lake Winds Energy Park wind farm, south of Ludington, was built too close to homes. Dizziness, sleeplessness, headaches and other physical symptoms are being caused by the noise, vibrations and flickering lights of the 56 turbines (some as far away as a half a mile), the lawsuit alleges.
